Did you know... • There has been a virtual epidemic of hip fractures and related injuries. • 25% of hip fracture patients die within the first year following the fracture.
Are these startling statements? You bet they are, which is why we have invited Dr. Eierle to provide us with both important and interesting information related to the epidemiology and anatomy of hip fractures. We will also examine secondary considerations such as vascular disruptions; the decision-making variables in treatment when related to young and elderly patients; pre- and post-operative management; and surgery choices. Unfortunately (particularly with elderly patients), we also have to examine poor outcomes and mortality that may occur despite our best efforts.
